Best Blenders & Kitchen Blenders

The blender is a small appliance that most of us have but rarely give much thought to, that is, until it doesn't work. There is a level of frustration with the lowly blender. All we ask is that it blends well, crushes ice and lasts as long as the blender our mother's had (I don't remember ever seeing my mother buy a blender in over 40 years. She still has the same Oster since she got married).

Quality is a big issue. Blenders just don't last as long. Smoothie making seems to wear them out faster than ever. I went looking for a blender that can handle the tough jobs, puree smoothly, crush ice and last longer than a few weeks. If you are looking for the best of the best, you cannot go wrong with either the Blendtec or the Vita-Mix. They are both outstanding blenders, in a class by themselves with different features but both can handle any difficult blending job for years to come. Both come with longer warranties than the industry average. I even have a couple of recipes for you to use to break in that new blender!

Find the best blenders that can whip up a smoothie, crushing ice, as well as mix up a sauce that tastes just right. The right kitchen blenders offer enough power for every need.

The Best You Can Get

  • Vita-Mix Super 5200 Kitchen Blender

Anne says: This blender is the Rolls Royce of blenders! It can easily handle the toughest blending jobs from smoothies to making peanut butter. The jar is a solid design, made from copolyester that helps to reduce noise, is chemical resistant and is sealed so no leaking. The blades are stainless steel and never need sharpening. It is available with two containers, one for wet and one for dry to be used to process coffee and grains. The Vita-Mix has two speeds: high and variable which gives you the ultimate control. It easily handled any job I could come up with! Since the motor is so strong, the blender is very loud - but if you are looking for a top notch blender, this is it!

    • 2 horsepower motor (1380 watts)
  • Blendtec Home Total Blender

Anne says: The Blendtec blender is an outstanding machine. At 15” tall, it can fit under most counters yet still can hold 64 ounces (the markings on the jar only go up to 32 ounces because of the expansion of liquids when blending). The base sports one-touch electronics instead of knobs or switches with 6 buttons for specific purposes like smoothies, ice cream, soups, salad dressings, ice crush and whole juice that control blending cycles that adjust time and speed. It also has a pulse button for excellent control. The Blendtec is computerized so the computer adjusts the speed of the blades through the blending cycles. It comes with a unique square jar and a two prong blade that is sealed. The motor on this model is on par with the Vita-Mix but is not quite as loud. It too handled anything I could throw at it.

  • Blendtec Connoisseur Kitchen Blender

Anne says: Convertible countertop built-in AND table top base mount - this is a really cool feature of the Blendtec - for high end kitchens where you can have the blender built in - and it comes with a base mount in case you would like to take it outdoors or to your vacation home. It's a high end feature for people who like state of the art kitchens.

    • 64 oz. and 96 oz. plastic jars with lids
    • 1500 watts
  • Waring Pro MBB520 Kitchen Blender

Anne says: This is my go to blender when I want to get a job done fast. It blends soups smoothly, purees evenly and makes great drinks. The design has been improved since I got mine a few years ago so that now the glass jar comes with the blades attached for easier clean up. It comes in two attractive finishes – stainless steel or copper.

  • Waring Pro PBB201 Kitchen Blender

Anne says: Like the pro MBB520 – this is a great blender with the same features of the attached blades for easier clean up. This model, however, comes in four colors to complete your retro kitchen; Retro Green, Ebony, Chili Red, and Quite White.

You will be happy with any of these

  • Kitchen Aid KSB560 Kitchen Blender

Anne says: This blender offers more features such as a one-piece assembly for easy cleaning and cord storage underneath the unit. The polycarb pitcher has a large capacity. This Kitchen Aid also comes in a variety of colors (like their stand mixers) to match any décor.

    • 56 oz. polycarbonate pitcher
    • 5 speeds
    • 0.9 horsepower motor (670 watts)
  • Oster Model BPST02-B Professional Series Blender

Anne says: This is a powerful blender that gets the job done. With only two speeds, which are really all you need, this Oster is comparable to the Waring Pro but usually priced lower. The only complaint is that it is loud.

    • 40 oz. glass jar
    • 2 speeds
    • 0.5 horsepower motor
  • Hamilton Beach Wave Power Plus Kitchen Blender

Anne says: This is a great blender for the price. It has all the features you need (and some you don't) with a large capacity jar and a strong motor.

    • 600 watts
    • 10 speeds
    • 56 oz. plastic jar
  • Oster Classic Beehive 4093-008 Kitchen Blender

Anne says: This is the blender you remember from your childhood. With its classic retro look, it is like a flashback sitting on your counter. Good reliability, nice features and a workhorse motor make this an excellent choice for the price.

    • 500 watts
    • 2 speeds
  • Oster 6684 Kitchen Blender

Anne says: This Oster unit is solidly made. It is relatively quiet and crushes ice well. The jar is not quite as large as the Hamilton Beach but it is still a great buy.
