Burton Concert SnowboardPants

Burton Concert SnowboardPants

Another shell pant, and relatively inexpensive. Rated at 5000m/5000G, this pant provides a moderately waterproof and breathable barrier. The pants are lightweight and flexible, and seem durable. The fit is relaxed and comfortable and the light insulation just enough. They have a nice mesh lined inside. I would recommend these for the warmer, dryer days. Overall, for the price, they provide all the basic needs.

The 686 Smarty Low-rise Pants is one of the warmest, most durable, functional, and comfortable pants I have found. With a zip out velour pant liner that is stylish enough to wear around the lodge, its versatility cannot be beat. It features two hip pockets, a zipper back pocket, and a cargo pass pocket. Inside the thigh, zipper mesh-lined vents keep your temperature just right. The fabric is very durable; one of the few pants that I have used for two seasons straight - that’s approximately 300+ days on snow! Rated at 15000m/10000g, I have tested them in rain, sleet, freezing rain, and powder, and they have never disappointed me. They have an adjustable waist for great fit, powder cuffs, and a great fit that is women specific yet still gives that slightly baggy fit. I opted for a size bigger than I usually wear because I like baggy pants, but I think the sizing is pretty accurate. However, as always, I recommend that if possible, try them on.

Helly Hansen continues to make some amazing pants. The feature that stands out is the waterproofing. After wearing these pants for a full season, they retained their waterproofing, which is rare. The sizing is pretty accurate and the pants offer a good amount of pockets. They also feature fully taped seams, which add to the waterproofing. These are an insulated pant that gives you extra warmth on cold days, but also can function well on warmer days by using lighter layering.

I have always loved Roxy’s bathing suits, and they have now moved into the snowboard market with vigor. The Twiggy pants are a shell pant and so lightweight I almost forget that they are snow pants. They provide a light barrier between you and the snow and are made perfectly for those warmer days when you want the flexibility to go crazy in the park. While the ones I tried were a pretty beige print, Roxy offers all kinds of colors and prints. They provide above average waterproofing with fully taped seams and a 10000m rating. They are also rated 10000g for breathability. The material is soft and comfortable. The pants do not have vents, but since they are so lightweight and have good breathability, you won’t even miss them.

I fell in love with these pants for one great feature: the adjustable drawstring cord in the pocket, which magically raises the bottom of your pants to prevent drag. Being 5'2", every pant I own has frayed bottoms from dragging on the ground. Not only does this feature prevent this, but it also keeps the bottom of your pant from getting dirty in the parking lot. The degree pant is slightly insulated, and its rating of 10000m offers superb weatherproofing. They have six pockets: two front hip, two back, and two front thigh pockets. There is mesh lining in the two zipper vents, as well as throughout the inside of the pant.

This pant is a great all-around pant. With built-in Thermacore insulation, they are warm on the days that are colder than we would like. I wear these pants on moderately cold days, around 20 degrees, and I am perfectly warm. Sometimes insulated pants can be slightly inflexible; however, this is not the case. They are comfortable, the fit is great, and they allow unrestricted movement. Breathability is awesome, as they feature zip vents on both the inside and outside of the thighs. They have four pockets (two in front and two in back). The fit and style resembles a pair of jeans. There are various color choices, too.

The Destiny Pant is a durable, well constructed pant. It features a nice, comfortable lining, although it is not removable. They are moderately warm, but would require more layers on extra cold days. The fit is good, but flexibility is affected by the thickness of the material. The design is stylish and includes a belt. There are an ample number of pockets. They do feature vents for extra breathability.

These are another well-made durable pant. Waterproofing is rated at 10000m and breathability at 10000g. They offer the standard features: Four pockets, adjustable waist, powder cuffs, and a soft lining. Because these pants are insulated, they definitely keep you warm, but they lack vents. However, because of fabric breathability, I didn’t feel the need for vents. They are a great buy for the price.

In addition to the standard features, like powder cuffs and vents, the Defense Cargo pant offers fully taped seams for extra waterproofing. Another helpful feature was the double layer in the seat, which is awesome for sitting on the lift or in the snow while binding in. The built-in knee pads are an added luxury that any level snowboarder can appreciate. Beginners could benefit greatly from this feature, as it could lessen the impact on the knees when falling. These also offer a zipper interface system, which is great for synching jacket to pants to keep the snow out. Keep in mind that you usually need to purchase a jacket by the same manufacturer in order for the interface to work properly.
