The Best You Can Get

  • Gears of War 3 Xbox Video Game

Expert says: The long awaited finale to the Gears triology, Gears of War 3 brings closure to a series that has defined the Xbox 360 and cover based 3rd person multiplayer action.  Adding new characters, maps, modes, and weapons, Gears 3 promises to be a worthy purchase this fall and holiday season.  Exclusive to the Xbox 360, Epic Games has crafted a polished franchise that will hopefully spawn some spin off games with in the Gears universe, just as Halo did with its series.  For superfan’s wanting it all, there are two other editions that provide bonus schwag and additional content by way of the Gears of War 3 Limited and Epic editions.

  • Battlefield 3 Xbox Video Game

Expert says: With more hype than just about any other game this holiday season, Battlefield 3 is going to be awesome.  Unveiling the new destructive powers of the Frostbite 2 engine while unleashing the most robust squad based multiplayer experience available, BF3 is going to be a beast to say the least.  Beautiful graphics and responsive controls with the promise of several DLC (downloadable content) will have you playing BF3 relentlessly into the next year.  The direct competitor to the Call of Duty series and “which game is better” debates from fanboy’s around the globe, BF3 will surely be worth the price of admission.

  • Batman: Arkham City Xbox Video Game

Expert says: The follow up to what many critics and fans call the best super hero game ever created, this sprawling Batman adventure crawls out of the asylum and spills out into the streets of Arkham City.  Adding new playable characters such as Catwoman and Robin insure maximum playability, while retaining the core features that made the original game such a massive success.  The Joker is back yet again, and he’s brought some classic Batman villains with him.  Replay value should be as huge as the first with over 400 in game collectable items to find and puzzles from the Riddler.

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Xbox Video Game

Expert says: The never wavering mega-freight train that is the Call of Duty series continues to press on with this year’s Modern Warfare 3.  The 3rd entry of the FPS that changed everything MW3 should be another walk in the mine filled park as players can immerse themselves in a taut and highly produced single player campaign, as well a robust as hell multiplayer suite.  New locations such as a decimated New York City should allow players another insight into occupied US territory which was first introduced in Modern Warfare 2.

  • The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Xbox Video Game

Expert says: One of the only franchises that you can literally play for hundreds of hours, Skyrim can be a real life sucker.  Taking design cues from the developers last epic, Fallout 3, Skyrim will be the new benchmark for console role playing games.  Also one of the few games that doesn’t need multiplayer, Elder Scrolls 5 single player campaign might just consume your whole winter.  With a huge amount of territory to explore above and below ground. Skyrim is really the only game of its kind to deliver properly on its conceived scope and breadth, so much so, that all gamers should take notice.
