Christina Tinglof: Twins Expert
Writer Christina Tinglof is creator and editor of Talk About Twins, a website devoted to twins and twin relationships. Talk About Twins features in-depth articles from twin pregnancy yoga and how to prepare for the arrival of twins to how to calm a twin rivalry and what to do when twins differ in abilities. Over the years it has evolved into “the destination” for parents of multiples seeking answers to confusing, twin-specific questions such as, “Should we put our twins in the same classroom?” Her roster of devoted readers has helped keep her finger on the pulse of what’s new and exciting in the world of twinning.
Christina’s twin expertise is only half the story, however. Her writing career dates back more than 20 years where she started out as a travel writer. Her round-the-world features and photographs have been published in dozens of newspapers and magazines including the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, and Westways magazine. She even taught travel writing workshops. After the birth of her fraternal twin boys in 1996 and then a son a few years later, her focus naturally shifted to researching and writing on twins, parenting and education issues. (Besides, with three boys born less than three years apart, who had time to romp around the Tuscan countryside?) Her parenting features have appeared in LA Parent, Central Parent, Kids and Parents, and Parents magazines and she’s a regular contributor to Twins magazine. She’s also authored five books including Parenting School-Age Twins and Multiples as well as the popular, Double Duty: The Parents’ Guide to Raising Twins, whose revised, second-edition hits the bookstore shelves in June 2009.

When you have young twins, there’s a tendency to buy two of everything especially when it comes to toys. And while it’s important for each twin to have individual items to call his very own, sometimes it just doesn’t make financial sense to buy two “big-ticket toys” (besides you may not have the room to store both)! But buying one plaything for twins to share can sometimes be tricky business as some toys (not to mention some twins) are just not conducive to sharing (think tricycle). To prevent squabbling or worse, a total twin tantrum, large toys need to have enough components to keep both parties happily occupied as well as enough space so your kids are not on top of each other. Furthermore, since toddler twins always seem to want what the other has, the most successful toys have two identical sections so impatient tots don’t have to wait to take a turn. The following list of Best Toys for Preschool Twins to Share fits the bill with plenty of options for your inquisitive doppelgängers.Read More » -

The Best of the Best:
Every mom expecting twins has a list of those essentials that she simply can’t live without. Cribs and car seats are two big ticket items that certainly top that list. Both need to be top rated for safety — that’s a given — and since the crib will undoubtedly be the focal point of the nursery, you’ll want it to be stylish, too. But it’s got to be smart on space since you’ll ultimately be needing two. A great car seat, on the other hand, needs to be light on its feet as you’ll be popping not one but two in and out of your car everyday. This list of the Best of the Best delivers on all accounts. -
Moms with twins have their hands full — literally. So when it comes to choosing a double stroller, convenience and ease-of-use are essential. Fortunately, these days moms of multiples have a profusion of possibilities: tandem, side-by-side, and the jogger. Each style has its advantages as well as a few drawbacks, (tandems are great for maneuvering through tight store aisles but the front seat doesn’t always fully recline, side-by-side models are lightweight and easy to lift in and out of your car trunk, but their wide girth make them a bit cumbersome to direct, and while the jogger is great for moms on the move, they’re best left for babies older than six months). So how do you choose? Before making this all-important purchase, decide how you’ll use your stroller and what features you value the most.Read More »
