Pros:

  • setup is relatively quick, approximately 15 minutes including security
  • DIR-601 speeds are ALWAYS 54mbps
  • affordable price
  • handles multiple devices smoothly without needing to be tweaked
  • doesn't lag or overlay when supporting multiple devices
  • clean admin interface makes everything easy to find
  • handles streaming video seamlessly

Cons:

  • documentation is sparse without the CD
  • drops connections frequently
  • included software not Mac compatible
  • poor reliability
  • speeds drop very quickly when more than one computer connects to the device (via wireless or wired connection)
  • no easy setup wizard for Linux or OSX - must be set up manually
  • generally erratic and weak signal strength
  • unimpressive speeds
  • WPA and WEP, but no WPA2 support

Pros: Speed boost over 802.11g. Consumes less power than older D-Link routers. Improved configuration page.

Cons: Speed boost is marginal. Router does not provide range improvement. Definitely not "true" 802.11n.
